I get this question constantly. What exactly is a boat management program? How is it different from a boat club? Is it some kind of timeshare? The short answer is no. It is fundamentally different. And once you understand the model, it changes how you think about boat ownership entirely.

What Is a Boat Management Program

A boat management program is simple. You own a boat. You place it into a managed fleet. The management company handles everything: scheduling, maintenance, cleaning, insurance, slip fees, and member management. Trained, vetted members pay monthly fees to access the fleet. You, the owner, receive a share of that revenue.

That is it. No gimmicks. No complicated structures. You own a real boat. It generates real revenue. Someone else handles the headaches.

Think of it like owning a rental property with a property management company. You own the asset. The management company finds the tenants, handles the maintenance, and sends you a check. Except instead of a condo, it is a boat. And instead of tenants, it is a small group of members who treat the boat like their own because they have been trained, vetted, and invested in the program.

How It Differs from a Boat Club

This is the most important distinction. Let me make it clear.

In a typical boat club, you pay them. You pay a membership fee, often $300 to $600 per month, plus an initiation fee of $5,000 to $10,000 or more. You do not own anything. You are essentially renting access to a fleet of boats. When you stop paying, you walk away with nothing. No equity. No asset. No boat.

In the PowerTime model, we pay you. You own the boat. Members pay monthly fees to access it. You receive revenue. If you decide to leave the program, you still own the boat. You can sell it, keep it for personal use, or move it to another marina. The equity is yours.

A typical boat club charges you monthly to use someone else's boats. PowerTime pays you monthly because other members use yours.

That is not a subtle difference. That is a completely different financial model. One costs you money every month with no return. The other generates income while you build equity in a real asset.

How PowerTime Works

Let me walk through the PowerTime model step by step.

Step 1: Purchase Your Vessel

You buy a boat. It can be one of the boats in our current fleet, hand-selected for the program and for New England conditions. We work with marine lending partners to structure competitive terms. No minimum purchase price required.

When you buy through Boston Yacht Group, you get exclusive dealer pricing on Aquador and Nimbus vessels. These are Scandinavian boats built for New England conditions. They hold up in the fleet because they are built to a higher standard than most American production boats.

Step 2: Place It in the Fleet

Your boat joins the PowerTime Boston fleet. We assign 8 to 10 members to your vessel. Each member goes through training on the boat. They learn the systems, the docking procedures, and the rules. This is not a free-for-all. It is a structured, professional program.

You retain full ownership. You have guaranteed personal access to your boat whenever you want it. You schedule your time just like any other member, except as the owner, you always come first.

Step 3: We Handle Everything

This is where the management piece comes in. PowerTime handles:

Step 4: Collect Revenue

Members pay monthly fees and initiation fees. You receive your share of that revenue every month. The amount varies based on the boat, the member count, and the season. But owners in our program typically offset 50 to 100 percent of their annual carrying costs through member revenue.

Revenue depends on usage, season, vessel, and member demand and is not guaranteed. Individual results vary.

I am not going to give you specific revenue numbers in this article because every situation is different. The revenue depends on the boat, the location, the member count, and the fee structure. What I will say is that when you sit down with me and look at the real numbers for your specific situation, the math makes sense. It just does.

How It Differs from Fractional Ownership

Fractional ownership means multiple people buy shares of one boat. It can work, but it comes with challenges. Co-owner disputes over scheduling, maintenance decisions, when to sell, and how to split costs. If one co-owner has financial trouble, everyone has a problem.

In the PowerTime model, you are the sole owner. There are no co-owners. The members are not owners. They are paying for access. The decisions about the boat are ultimately yours.

Tax Implications

I am not a CPA, and I am not going to give you tax advice. But I will say this: owning a boat that generates revenue has different tax implications than owning a purely recreational boat. Depreciation, maintenance deductions, and business use of the vessel are all things worth discussing with your accountant.

Several of our owners have found that the tax treatment of a revenue-generating boat significantly improves the overall financial picture. Talk to your CPA. Show them the program structure. Let them run the numbers for your specific situation.

Who This Is For

The PowerTime model works best for a specific type of person:

What Makes PowerTime Different

PowerTime is a boutique program. We are not running 50 boats out of a mega-marina. Our Boston fleet is small, curated, and professionally managed. Every boat is hand-selected for New England conditions. Every member is trained by a USCG Licensed Captain. Every interaction is personal.

I am Captain Paul Sullivan. I run this program. You deal with me directly. Not a call center. Not a corporate office in another state. When you have a question, you call me. When something needs attention on your boat, I handle it.

That is the difference between a boutique program and a franchise operation. You are not a number. You are an owner, and I treat you like one.

How to Get Started

The process is straightforward:

  1. Have a conversation. Call me or fill out the inquiry form. Tell me what you are looking for. I will explain the program in detail and answer every question you have.
  2. Look at the boats. Browse our current fleet. I will help you find the right vessel for the program and for your personal use.
  3. See the numbers. I will put together a personalized ownership projection showing your estimated costs, revenue, and net position. Real numbers. No fluff.
  4. Make a decision. If it makes sense, we move forward. If it does not, no hard feelings. I would rather you make an informed decision than a pressured one.

Ready to see what the PowerTime model looks like for your situation? Book a call with Captain Paul and we will build your personalized revenue estimate. Real numbers for your boat, your costs, and your net position.
